Recife has several shopping centers, which concentrate not only shops but also leisure and food options.
Shopping Recife
The biggest shopping complex in Recife, and one of the biggest in Brazil. A cinema multiplex and the only bowling house in Recife. Right in the middle of Boa Viagem.
Plaza Shopping
It's the smallest of the four major shopping centers in Recife. In the middle of one of the richest neighbourhoods of the city, this place is the most frequented by the upper class of the Recife.
Arts and Crafts
There are several small shops selling arts and craft scattered all around the city (including the shopping centers). However, some places concentrate a large number of arts and crafts traders, where tourists can find more diversity and better prices (bargaining is always necessary). Avoid the shops in the airport, where prices are at least the double as in other places.
Pernambuco Culture House
Recipe's old Detention House was remodeled in 1975 and transformed into a regional culture center. Set up in old cells, one will find the Frevo Museum, arts and crafts stores, snack bars and tourist information stands. It is located on Rua Floriano Peixoto, in the Santo Antonio district. The telephone is +55 (81) 3224-2850 and its working hours are from Monday thru Saturday from 9AM to 6PM, and on Sundays from 10AM to 5PM.
São José Market
It is located on Praça D. Vital, in the São José district. It opens from Monday thru Saturday from 6AM to 5:30PM, and on Sundays from 6AM to 12PM.
Boa Viagem Arts and Crafts Fair
It is located on Praça da Nossa Senhora de Boa Viagem. The fair is one of the oldest in the country, having, at present, 212 stands.
Feira do Terminal de Boa Viagem
At the south end of Avenida Boa Viagem. About 50 small stands which offer every kind of arts and crafts (sculptures in clay are particularly good and cheap). Also, several stands offering fast food (if your looking for regional food, try acaraje or tapioca). |
